History

Wounded Heroes Family Adventures was created in 2008 by Bob and Bonnie Miller with its first event, the Wounded Warriors Family Ski Week. Bob, a veteran of the Vietnam War, envisioned a program to offer recreational therapy opportunities to soldiers severely wounded in combat operations. As a psychologist, Bonnie recognized the need for a program that included the entire family and guided the development of the Family Enrichment program.

Our mission is to provide Wounded Heroes and their families outdoor experiences in the beauty of the Colorado Rockies, partnered with a Family Enrichment program for bonding opportunities with themselves and other families. In July 2012, we were formally established as a nonprofit tax-exempt educational organization and attained 501(c) (3) status as Wounded Warriors Family Adventures. In January 2016, we changed our name to Wounded Heroes Family Adventures.

The Family Ski Week is still going strong and is held each year in April. In recent years as the organization has grown, we have added two summer events, Family Mountain Adventure and Family Mountain Experience. We partner with the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, a nationally recognized adaptive outdoor educational organization for all events.

We are an independent nonprofit dedicated to supporting our Wounded Heroes and their families and are not affiliated with any other organizations. We are proud that over 90% of donations received go directly to programs for our Wounded Heroes and their families.
